The other week a guy came in to see me about his foot pain.
He limped in, barely able to walk, all the way to the treatment room.
The pain had been going on for around 10 days.
He’d been to see his GP, who told him it was fine and gave the usual advice;
“Go home, rest it, ice it, and take some anti-inflammatories”.
So when the pain wasn’t getting any better he came to see me.
He sat down he took his shoe and sock off to expose his foot.
Normally people come in who are in pain, with nothing to “see”, apart from maybe some swelling or redness.
On this occasion however something nearly resembling a foot was staring back at me!
Instantly I could see the problem.
It was CLEARLY dislocated around the top of the foot.
There was a massive “step deformity” which ANYONE could have seen.
So anyway sent him to get an X-Ray, which confirmed my genius diagnosis of dislocation with a possible fracture.
With this information I sent him to the hospital to get it treated.
But then…
I get an email back saying something along the lines of;
“I’ve been to the hospital, they gave me an X-Ray and they told me it was fine, not dislocated or fractured”.
WHAT?!
Were they looking at the same foot?
I phoned him up and told him to go back to a different hospital because these guys were straight up WRONG!
Thankfully he took my advice, went along with a letter from me and ended up having surgery to put the foot put back together.
He’s now got to have the pins in place for 5 weeks followed by a cast for the 5 weeks after that.
The point of this story is this;
Despite what faith we have in doctors and nurses, they don’t always know best or always get it right
and if you want a second opinion, get one!
Doctors unfortunately don’t have enough time to sit there and diagnose you properly.
Personally if I had a muscular/skeletal problem, my first port of call would be an Osteopath.
If you have a health or injury concern, go to see someone who has the time to do a full case history and can sit and examine you properly.
At Precision Wellbeing we have highly trained and skilled practitioners who can help you with your injuries, health or fitness issues.
Feel free to give us a call.
