I’m sure many of you know by now that I’m a bit of a First Aid geek. I watch videos on YouTube, I attend courses regularly, even advanced courses designed for people in combat environments.
Why am I like this? Because I believe that it is almost inevitable to come across someone in need at some point in our lives.
Now I know this is a different type of post to normal but I feel it’s one you need to read just as importantly.
What Would You Do?
Let’s think of a couple of scenarios here
Scenario 1
What if one day you were in your house alone with your kids and suddenly you realise that the house is unusually quiet considering you can normally hear laughing, screaming and shouting.
You go through the house to see what they are up to and find one of your kids unconscious on the floor, blue and not breathing.
There are pills around him. Does that mean he’s choked? Or has he taken something that’s sent him unconscious?
What do you do?
Start CPR (do you know CPR)? or call 999?
Time’s ticking…
In this scenario it would be easy to panic especially as you’re on your own but time is of the essence as you literally have seconds rather than minutes to do the right thing.
Scenario 2
You witness a road traffic accident as you’re walking along the high street.
A lady has just been knocked down by a car as she was crossing the road.
People are screaming, panicking, there’s chaos everywhere.
Do you go to help?
What do you do?
Here it would be easy to be a bystander and wait for someone else to rush in and help. But what if no one else did?
You Should Know Basic First Aid
At some point in your life you are likely to witness an accident, or someone in need of help.
Knowing what to do can literally mean the difference between life and death!
At the very least you should know how to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as this can help keep oxygen flowing round someone’s body until the paramedics arrive to take over.
Do A First Aid Course
First aid is something everyone should know the basics of. This is why we are hosting an Emergency First Aid At Work 1 day course. It will be suitable for people who have never done first aid before and also people who need a refresher.
The course will cover;
- Aims and principles of first aid
- What to do in an emergency
- Basic Life Support (CPR)
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
- Choking and asphyxia
- Assessment and treatment of burns
- Assessment and treatment of miscellaneous medical conditions
